Rotary Knowledge: Vocational Service

As we prepare for our vocational exchange in May, you will need to become very familiar with Rotary concepts. October is Rotary Vocational Service Month, a very relevant topic for our upcoming experience.

Vocational service is one of the four avenues of service in Rotary, based on the
Object of Rotary -- to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards. Rotary International President Wilf considers high ethical standards a key to humanitarian service. By wearing the Rotary emblem we identify ourselves worldwide as honest, forthright and caring people. Being a Rotarian means we share common ideals of service to our local and world communities and a firm commitment to high ethical standards in the conduct of our professional and personal lives. These ideals allow us to do our humanitarian work more effectively, since it earns the confidence of individuals, communities, organizations and governments with whom we deal in our service.

As Rotary Group Study Exchange team members we will be expected to represent these Rotary ideals and our respective vocations/professions to the very best of our abilities.
