Corrientes Tour

by Emily Francona

April 29-30 - Accompanied by Rotarian Hector (Kelly's host and former GSE team leader), we gave a brief interview to MultiCanal TV, followed by an audience with the county supervisor. The photo is me with the council members and Hector.

We were given a briefing and boat tour of the Corrientes area of the Rio ParanĂ¡ by the Argentine Coast Guard.

One afternoon included a cooking demonstration of how to make chipa, a cheese pastry, at the estancia of another Rotarian.

This was followed by a tango lesson with a professional dance couple (who are available for demonstrations worldwide, such as a district conference...). Lisa is shown here perfecting her style.

One evening began with a wine tasting (I loved the Torrontes, a dry white from Salta province, and the 2008 Tobiano Malbec from the Mendoza region was outstanding. This led into an informal asada (BBQ) with Rotarians from several local clubs and entertainment by a professional dance couple demonstrating the chamame.

Corrientes Rotary Club

by Emily Francona

Rotary Club of Corrientes Sur

April 28 - The first team presentation to a combined area clubs meeting went well - much applause, more kisses, followed by dessert, musical entertainment by a guitarist and a violinist from the Corrientes symphony.

The club introduced us to chamame, typical Corrientes music. Club president Miguel and wife demonstrated a stormy version of chamame - we all joined in later.

Arrival in Corrientes

Arrival at Corrientes airport

April 28 - A large group of Corrientes Rotarians welcomed us at the airport, with endless Rotary kisses and bienvenidas. We had just enough time to drop our luggage at host homes and change for the 9:30pm Rotary Club of Corrientes Sur meeting.

And they're off...

Buenos AiresApril 27

The team is in Buenos Aires - some of the ladies arrived over the last week for a few days of sightseeing in the capital city.

Team Leader Emily arrived this morning - the only one who arrived on time and whose bags actually showed up!

On Monday afternoon the team flies to District 4790's Rotary Club of Corrientes to begin the vocational exchange.
